Edwards Wood Products in Laurinburg, North Carolina upgraded their Cone/Omega canter machines with Cortex chip heads in June of 2020. The heads installed are (6) knife solid heads. The objective of the project was to reduce operating costs compared to the previous reversible knife system. We installed all 4 heads in a weekend and ran the first hour on Sunday with no issues. The mill has recognized a cost savings of over 40% on knives and parts. An additional benefit is the increase in knife life from 2 shifts to 8 shifts.
